EMMA BRADFORD & LEIGHTON LANCASTER

SISTERS + FOUNDERS, LITTLE ART HOUSE

Growing up in Columbia, Tennessee, with an art teacher as our mother, we always practiced creativity & imagination in our house.

Every summer and school holiday, we spent hours painting, drawing, making playdough, creating found object collages, and much more.

While we played, we were encouraged to reflect on our experiences in art-making to increase curiosity and  grow intellectually.

These warm memories of risk and reward fueled by imagination are what motivated us to create the Little Art House.

We hope to provide inviting opportunities for people to imagine, explore, and create in a comfortable, encouraging environment. Please join us in this adventure as we continue to grow.

We look forward to meeting you and our future students!

Favorite Nashville spot?  Martin's BBQ

Favorite artist? Paul Klee

The moment when you know you were an artist? When I re-created this impressionist drawing with colored pencil in high school, I realized I loved figuring out how to apply color, texture or lines as an intro to art making.

Favorite thing about running a business with your sister? As sisters, we know each other so well we usually find a way to understand each other quickly and we have the same innate goals for Little Art House.

Why you love teaching? I love how as the student or the teacher, it's all about problem-solving, learning something new, and relating to others.

Piece of work you are most proud of? I loved my sketch book when I was little and was so proud when I drew the American Girl Doll, Samantha.  As an adult, I would say the oil painting of my grandmother.

Favorite Nashville spot? The Ryman & Our Studio

Favorite artist? Marc Chagall

The moment when you knew you were an artist? When I first used one of those spiraling paint machines, I thought I had created magic!

Favorite thing about running a business with your sister? I love building our dream career together.

Why do you love teaching? The relationships you build with all kinds of students from babies to adults.

What is the most frustrating art project you've ever worked on? For the Science Fair, I could always make the boards look pretty and interesting but that never seemed to help me get a Blue Ribbon for the content...

Piece of work you are most proud of? My Senior series in college- I created thinned down oil paintings of my sister and I as kids. When I was younger, I’d say my hand collaged works, I collaged everything from wooden paintbrushes to magnets to handmade cards.

Why Little Art House?

From Adults to littlest kiddos, let's all get together and create!

Whether you are new to Little Art House or you've been creating with us since we opened our doors in Hillsboro Village, we've got the perfect classes for you!

OUR APPROACH

OUR MISSION is to cultivate a learning environment for people of all ages to imagine, explore and create. OUR VISION is to bring creative opportunities to artists of all ages and levels across Tennessee.

As teachers in the public school system for years, we saw access to art and funding of the programs start to dwindle. We also saw a need for small, personalized class environments offering consistent classes with qualified teachers.  At Little Art House, we are set up as a resource in Nashville to grow with your child from baby sensory classes to portfolio classes to help your senior prepare an AP portfolio.

P.S. Parents, we've got amazing classes for you too whether you are looking to learn a new skill or have a night out with friends.  Check out our Adults classes

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

SMALL CLASSES. We keep our classes little by design so your child benefits from a personalized learning environment. Classes are limited to 8 seats. (Tip: book in advance! The word is out & we are starting to fill up quickly!)

QUALIFIED TEACHERS. All teachers have a degree in Art Education, Fine Art, or Child Development and have experience working with students of all ages.

PERSONALIZED INSTRUCTION. Whether your child is working on the same project as other kids in the class or individualized projects in our Portfolio Classes, our approach is the same. Success is not always measured in the finished product but through the process of a fresh approach and new techniques learned along the way.

CONSISTENT CLASSES & MULTIPLE OFFERINGS. Our classes are weekly so your child can get into the rhythm of his or her creative process from drop-in classes on the weekend to weekly morning or after-school classes. Also, check out our Homeschool Classes, available now!
