PAPER PAINTING with Carolyn Beehler

150.00

Sundays, 1:00-3:00pm, Registration Required

November 4th, 11th & 18th, 3 Part Series

Welcome to the mesmeric world of paper painting. Your host, Carolyn Beehler, discovered this rich medium because she was convinced that paper should push past collage's satirical flatlands. After learning how to work with oils and acrylics in design school, she spent the next few years treating paper as a branch of painting rather than as a separate skill set altogether. In this introductory class, students will learn how to apply the foundations of painting, the basis of her art, to magazine paper.

The first class will examine color and value as students create warm, cool and neutral scales. Next, students will apply this knowledge to shape and form as they practice paper painting simple 3D shapes. Students will also learn how to create a sense of movement with different kinds of paper cuts that imitate expressive brushstrokes. In the last class everyone will put these skills to use as they create a final, miniature work
